Joe Gardner, a middle school teacher who enjoys jazz music, is the subject of the soul film. He abruptly has an accident that separates his soul from his body after a successful performance at the Half Note Club. He is then brought to the You Seminar, a facility where souls grow and discover their passions before being brought to a newborn child.
In order to return to Earth, Joe needs the assistance of the other souls-in-training, including 22, a soul who has spent eons in the You Seminar.
