Harold, a quiet college student from the region, forms a strong friendship with AM, a wealthy city girl with big goals, and they secretly fall in love. The two never progress past the "more than friends but less than lovers" stage and finally part ways due to their conflicting personalities—Harold is disillusioned, whilst AM is idealistic—and difficulties in their personal lives. Now that they are back together after five years apart, AM and Harold spend brief moments exploring their old haunts and considering their former selves, making Harold's trip the following day the largest "what if" of their lives.
