The Naval Destroyer Nathan James is dispatched to the Arctic on what is purported to be a research expedition. Rachel Scott, a biologist, is with them. After a few months in the Arctic, several individuals start attacking them as Scott is conducting study on the ice. When they return to the ship, Commander Tom Chandler questions the physician about the situation. She claims that a dangerous sickness recently spread. They initially believed they had it under control, but they lacked a cure. She is here because they believed the Arctic held the key to the cure. However, she recently learned that it has now spread to much of the world. When Chandler tries to call the President, he discovers the President and Vice President's phone numbers.When Chandler tries to call the President, he discovers that both the President and Vice President have passed away and that the US government may not last for very long. The current President assures him that he and his crew are safe because the Nathan James was not in the danger area. Scott, however, has the key to the survival of the world, therefore it is now up to them to keep her safe. However, certain people also desire the cure and would stop at nothing to have it.
