The night is Halloween, and the year is 1963. Police discover that 15-year-old Judith Myers had been fatally stabbed by her 6-year-old brother, Michael, at 43 Lampkin Lane. The night before Halloween, Myers—who has been institutionalized for fifteen years—escapes. Nobody wants to know or knows what will happen on October 31, 1978, except for Dr. Loomis, Myers' psychiatrist. He knows Michael is going back to Haddonfield, but not many people will until it's too late.
